NEW! Pixar Play Zone at Disney’s Contemporary Resort

UPDATE (04/13/18): Pixar Play Zone is now open for business

UPDATE (03/15/18): Disney has now given us concept art and some new details about this experience for children ages 4-12. Also, you can now reserve a spot for your kid by calling 407-824-KIDS.

In Bonnie’s Play Room, children will find a variety of toys. Around the corner, the Living Room will be the center for most of the action, starting with Space Ranger Training where a Space Ranger will teach kids what it takes to become a Jr. Space Ranger of Star Command, including how to identify enemies, like Zurg, and finally, the call of the Space Ranger, “To infinity and beyond!” Then, Woody and Jessie will show them the ropes of the Wild West during Woody’s Roundup – complete with a sing along for a rootin’ tootin’ good time!

Next to the Living Room will be the Radiator Springs Racetrack where youngsters will be able to build their own racecars and take turns sending them down a soapbox derby racetrack for Piston Cup Derby Races.

Finally, they will learn some sweet dance moves during the Incredible Dance Party with Mr. Incredible and Mrs. Incredible – complete with a party host.

The evening will also include arcade games, dinner and dessert!

After the announcement that the Disney child care centers would shutter this summer, I was a bit bummed that my daughter wouldn’t get to experience the fun of Lilo’s Playhouse for our September trip. Actually, that’s mostly a lie, I was more bummed that my wife and I couldn’t get a date night to sample the offerings at Epcot’s Food & Wine Festival, then head to Disney Springs for some late night at The Edison. Now, Disney may have just remedied that (depending on whether this pilot program is still running after Labor Day). So, now I’m bummed that I’m not age 12 or younger cause this shit sounds pretty damn cool.

Here’s the 411 from the Disney Parks blog:

We have incredible news to share that will take kids to infinity and beyond!

Starting April 13, 2018, Disney’s Contemporary Resort will introduce a brand-new, playful and immersive Pixar character experience as part of a pilot program. Each night, kids, ages 4-12, will be transported to a world full of excitement and adventure with their favorite characters from Disney•Pixar’s “Toy Story” and “The Incredibles”!

It all kicks off with Space Ranger Training where kids will learn how to identify and battle enemies of the Star Command. Then, Woody and Jessie will show them the ropes of the Wild West during Woody’s Roundup. During the Piston Cup Challenge, youngsters will be able to build a race car, then race it on the Radiator Springs Racetrack. And finally, kids will learn some sweet dance moves during the Incredible Dance Party with Mr. Incredible and Mrs. Incredible. What else is on the menu? Games, dinner and dessert, of course!

The nightly getaway for kids, ages 4-12, will open doors for registration at 5 p.m. and programming will run from 6-10:30 p.m. for a fee of $65 per child (plus tax). Children must be fully toilet-trained.

While the kids play, parents can enjoy their own getaway throughout Walt Disney World Resort.

For comparison sake the traditional child care centers cost $55 for their nightly program and while their entertainment options were solid and well worth it this seems more akin to something you’d find on Disney Cruise Line so the ten dollar increase is probably money well spent.
