Dining Review: The Wave

Menu (Allergy Menu) The Wave is located at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. It’s a sit down table service restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. There is nothing special about the atmosphere at this particular restaurant. In fact, the theming is really damn lazy, so don’t worry about a dress code. As with all table service restaurants, reservations can be made 180 days prior to your stay. However, advanced reservations are not as important with The Wave because more often than not you can make a same day reservation, or possibly even walk in.

The Gluten Free Food at The Wave

Signature Burger

The Signature Burger ($19) is a Signature Blend of beef, applewood smoked bacon, cheddar, red onion, house-made pickles, lettuce, and tomato. You can get this on an allergy-friendly bun. It’s an expensive son of a bitch but was actually quite tasty. A comparable burger from Red Robin is $17 and it tastes like shit. I ordered this medium rare and it came perfectly cooked. It was juicy and had good flavor. The tomato and lettuce were fresh, the bacon was a nice complement, and the homemade pickles were delicious. My only complaint about the burger was the allergy-friendly bun. Unfortunately, gluten free buns suck because they usually fall apart. However, I can look past the bun because this burger kicked ass. In addition to the burger I ordered fries. Right before our food arrived the server informed me that the fries were not cooked in a dedicated fryer, making them NOT allergy-friendly. I ordered greens beans in place of the fries. Since they tried to bring all the food out at the same time the green beans were under cooked. They were hard and absolutely terrible. Thankfully, the burger was awesome.

Overall, I really liked The Wave. I was able to get a same day reservation and the food was solid. The server wasn’t the best, but I should have asked to speak with the chef before ordering my food. In my defense, this seems like something the server probably should’ve known. As I previously stated, the Signature burger was fantastic. With that said, I would recommend The Wave because it was a good meal and I didn’t need to book a reservation a million days before I got there. Plus, the Contemporary is a great location- just a walk away from Magic Kingdom.
